Behind the Boards: Babi’s Creative Work at a Top Miami Music Studio

In the golden haze of Venezuela’s afternoon sun, where mango trees lean lazily over fences and the scent of arepas drifts through the air, Bárbara Rodríguez Aguiar learned to play melodies with her keyboard. Her family wasn’t musical, but her brother loved Blink 182, Pennywise, and he’d strum fast and loud, his fingers blistered from punk chords on his guitar. The siblings played music together, but Bárbara Rodríguez Aguiar earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. But when she arrived in the United States in 2016, her memories of keyboards punk riffs echoing from her brother’s strings, she believed that maybe her music wasn’t just for the living room.

“In Venezuela, I didn’t see it as a career,” she said. “But once I was in the U.S., I saw and had actual opportunities to work in music in so many ways and by 2020, I was in the actual music business.”

In the shimmering heart of Miami’s ever-evolving music scene, where neon lights dance off rain-soaked sidewalks and the pulse of reggaeton and trap echoes down Wynwood alleyways, one name rises from the underground with both grace and grit — Babi

Bárbara, also known as Babi, started her career in Caracas, Venezuela, and later moved to Miami, Florida, where she founded BabiMusic. Her presence in the studio is magnetic — a mix of quiet intensity and boundless creativity.

“I’d say my music really opened up for me in 2020,” said Babi. “What a year to start a different career. But I’ve always been into soulful hip-hop, Jazz, and R&B.”

With roots tangled in Miami’s multicultural soil, Babi pulls influence from Caribbean rhythms, 2000s R&B, lo-fi hip-hop, and electronic soul.

“I actually didn’t know too much about those genres in Venezuela,” said Babi. “Artists that inspired me are Sade, and I actually learned English listening to ‘90s rappers.”

She doesn’t just produce music; she crafts cinematic soundscapes that transport listeners into her world — one where vulnerability meets swagger, and every track tells a story.

Miami’s melting pot energy with the sensitivity of a poet and the instinct of a streetwise visionary. Whether performing live with a sampler and a mic in dim-lit venues or releasing experimental EPs through Bandcamp and SoundCloud, Babi is undeniably shaping the sound of tomorrow, right from the soul of South Florida.

“I was interning at labels, and I’d do sessions with people who were artists,” said Babi. “I was gathering information little-by-little this and telling other artists this is how you collect royalties, these are your rights, and that developed into a course. Now, it’s like a full online course for managers, producers, and songwriters.”

For other artists, especially younger or emerging ones, she acts like a creative mentor. She helps them brainstorm for concepts.

“I was posting these informative videos on Instagram,” said Babi. “This was around 2022 and 2023. No crazy editing that distracts the video. Just useful information to help people.”

But Babi’s real magic happens behind closed doors — in the studio.

In the studio, Babi is known for her innovative approach to music production. She seamlessly integrates traditional instruments with modern technology, crafting soundscapes that are both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Her collaborative spirit and commitment to authenticity have made her a sought-after producer, working with a diverse array of artists to bring their visions to life.

“At Good Tone Studios, I met the studio owner Dox305,” said Babi. “We realized our goals align and I had experience working with another studio. But now I have a team and by 2024, I got to work with them.”

Good Tone Studios

Tucked away in the vibrant heart of Miami at 8265 NW 64th Street, Good Tone Studios is more than just a recording space—it’s a sanctuary where creativity flourishes and music comes alive. From the moment you step inside, you’re enveloped in an atmosphere that blends professional precision with the warmth of artistic freedom.

Founded by Esteban “Dox305” Ujueta, a seasoned producer and engineer, Good Tone Studios was born from a dream to create a haven where artists feel at home. The studio’s name encapsulates its mission: to deliver good music, good sounds, and, above all, good vibes.

“Professional service and a great vibe for creatives, artists, and producers,” said Jorge Larrea. “Recording sessions are private, which is a huge plus. Highly recommend.”

Beyond its technical prowess, Good Tone Studios is a cultural hub. Their signature event, “The Corner Vibes,” transforms the studio into a live performance venue, showcasing local talent and fostering community among artists and fans alike.

“We have performers who can still move people even in another language,” said Babi. “We’ve had Steven [Avi El Gato], who is a violinist, and every session, every live performance, has something to enjoy.”

The studio’s Instagram page offers a glimpse into its dynamic environment, featuring behind-the-scenes footage, artist spotlights, and highlights from recent events. It’s a testament to the studio’s commitment to not only producing exceptional music but also building a vibrant artistic community.

As Babi continues to rise, her journey remains rooted in community, creativity, and a deep love for sound. She’s found a second home at Good Tone Studios in Miami — a space that matches her energy and empowers her to push sonic boundaries even further. With new music on the horizon, her next chapter promises even more genre-defying tracks, visual storytelling, and boundary-breaking collaborations.

But for Babi, it’s never just about her own spotlight. She remains devoted to educating, uplifting, and mentoring other artists — especially those whose voices have too often been overlooked. Whether she’s in the studio mixing a track, directing a visual concept, or sitting one-on-one with a young creative, Babi continues to plant seeds for the next generation.

In a city like Miami — where reggaeton, indie rock, Latin pop, hip-hop, EDM, and jazz all collide under the same sun — Babi is a shining example of what’s possible when talent meets purpose. Her sound may be rooted in personal truth, but her impact reaches far beyond the beat. Because in every corner of this city, from Wynwood to Little Havana to the heart of Downtown, music lives — and thanks to Babi, it breathes a little deeper.
